Meet HyperSound Glass – transparent directional glass speakers that looks amazing

Turtle Beach informed the media and gadget fans about their big breakthrough, materialized in a project of glass-based speakers that could be the future of our home audio.

Hypersound glass speakers

The speakers, which Turtle Beach is calling HyperSound Glass, are comprised of multiple layers of transparent materials and film allowing it to “generate a beam of ultrasound” according to the company.

Traditional audio radiates from the source and immediately begins to degrade in the air. HyperSound is a little different. It’s less about the origin of the sound, and more about the direction it’s traveling in.One comparison Turtle Beach made was the difference between a light bulb and a flash light. Bulbs diffuse their light in every direction, like audio, but a flashlight directs a more powerful beam in a more focused channel. HyperSound is very similar.

Ultrasound beams are largely inaudible unless you’re one of the targeted listeners, making the HyperSound Glass a highly directional and very thin speaker. Turtle Beach showed off the HyperSound Glass at E3 earlier this month, but says the speakers are still in the early prototype phase, which means it’ll be some time before you’ll be able to replace your massive speakers with a sheet of glass — or better yet replace your windows with speakers.

But it’s looking like like we may end up with glass speakers in the not-too-distant future. Hopefully. We really want window speakers now.
