The flight from Cairo to Abu Dhabi scheduled for Saturday has been postponed to a later date.
The Ground Crew was already well underway preparing the pilot and airplane for takeoff to their final destination, Abu Dhabi, when the latest wind reading was too high to take SI2 safely out of the tent and onto the runway. This flight was close to the weather limits since the beginning – any delay in the schedule could affect the timing for the rest of the flight.
Bertrand Piccard is also sick with an upset stomach. He fell ill on Saturday and was feeling better yesterday morning, but his health has since deteriorated. This flight, estimated to last anywhere from 48 hour to 72 hour flight, would have already been challenging even for a healthy pilot.
We always put safety first and therefore have decided to postpone the flight and wait for him to feel better in order to identify another weather window.
The engineers at the Mission Control Center in Monaco will continue to work hard to identify another window in the coming days. Stay tuned on 4SMT.EU for further info.
